My Trip To Temptation Island!
Your Trip To Temptation Island!
Every day of my life I am in a position to be tempted to: Lie. Cheat. Steal. Deceive. Etc.
Every day of your life you are in a position to be tempted to: Lie. Cheat. Steal. Deceive. Etc.
Every day that I live I am amazed more than ever before at the proliferation of temptation to tempt each other to lay aside moral values that once kept our country and our families together. Radio news teams have to go on television to do an advertisement to promote their station and themselves. This might be okay if that is all that they were doing. The sad reality of it is that they feel they have to do it with a presentation that suggests nudity and has sexual connotations.
I drive down the street and I am confronted with billboards on bus shelters that are advertising shoes. Nothing wrong with that; until once again I also have to be presented with a woman facing a man looking at her with the suggestion that she has nothing covering her frontal exposure. He says to her: " Nice Shoes."
Who is watching this adult material besides adults? Our children and Grandchildren.
At every convenience store you will find almost as many magazines depicting nudity and sexual exploitation than you will find useful things like food and essentials.
Something Wrong Here?
I have always thought we were in this world to build marital and family relationships; is this kind of advertising doing that?
In the world of television we are getting more and more shows that tell us to cheat on our wives; go steal a car; kill a policeman; and to deceive anybody you can to get what you want.
One of the most popular shows in recent days is one called: "Temptation Island."
People who seem to be genuinely happy in their relationship are now putting their futures at risk by accepting the challenge to see if they can stay faithful to their partner if they are tempted to a great enough degree.
Something Awfully Wrong Here!
Everything is just considered to be a lark. Nothing is sacred or serious anymore. Then when our children head off in the wrong direction we wonder why they are so far off track from when we were growing up. Who needs to wonder? We just need to open our eyes and stand up and say: "It no good the way we are going."
Well why leave out Campbell's Soups?I wish we could leave them out of their advertisement. You've likely seen it. Mom makes soup for two boys about ten years old. One of them is her son, and the other one is his friend.
The friend says something like: You look very good. You must take good care of yourself. Etc. Then the friend turns to the son and with a lustful look in his eyes he says: " Your Mom's Hot." There is no shortage of temptations to ruin the lives of young and old. Along with this we are asked to enjoy the game of "Come and be enticed to commit another immorality on Temptation Island." Are we advertising the product, or has immorality become the product? There is no end to the list I could provide here of examples of how our present world is going to pot. That is another story.
How and where will it end?
The problem of temptation is not a new one. The problem is that the closer we get to the coming of Jesus Christ back to this earth, the greater intensity there seems to be in the field of temptation. The Christian world does not seem to be immune to this canker. It did indeed all begin in the Garden of Eden.
In the Garden of Eden God did not outfit Adam and Eve with anything but the skin they were born with. This was not good enough for Adam and Eve. Their temptation with the forbidden fruit drove them to cover their naked bodies. The opposite is true today. It seems like any commercial that does not expose as much skin as possible, does not have a chance of high rating.
All the Hollywood productions are headed in the same direction. If a show or movie does not have nudity or swearing in it, it does not make a big hit in the review column. As far as this earth is concerned I see no hope of improvement. Things will not change much for the good for our children. What hope is there if we don't at least give them the best charge that we can?
Let's try another avenue. When ever the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, it seems more likely that the majority will not yield to the temptation to become a Christian. The temptation is always there when the gospel is preached. The Holy Spirit does his job to convict the people of sin and try to persuade them to become a Christian. This is the story we find in the Bible too.
Acts 26:27-29: Tempted to become a Christian.
I know that there is allot of confusion in Christian circles about how to interpret the Word of God. But is there anything better on the other side? Politics and policies from the Government level cannot seem to change the heart of people. God's Word can!
Try it!
Trust it!
Trust Jesus
to be continued...
Why would I want to add to that the pressures of bringing temptations closer on purpose?
